The Call of the Road
I am Toby Lauwerier from Ghent, Belgium. Basically, I am a cyclist.
In 2016 I rode my bike from Ghent to Istanbul. In 2017, Moscow was the destination. I am up for a third continental crossing, this time from Ghent to the Black Sea. The Road to Odessa - Ukrain yes indeed it will be.
Unlike my two previous transcontinental rides, this one I've split up in three different runs. In the Easter weekend I rode from Ghent to Arlon (300 km). One week later I rode from Arlon to Lausanne (600 km) - where my brother lives. Beginning of June, I'll return to Lausanne by train and continue the Road to Odessa from there (3500 km more).
I will take the long, long way round - travelling very lightweight and with a road bike - covering between 150 and 200 km a day or so. Looking forward to be Switzerland, Italy, San Marino, Croatia, Bosnia, Montenegro, Albania, Macedonia, Bulgaria, Romania, and Ukrain at last!
In the meantime, I sure will hit the road to some other places. Thank you for following my stories!
More soon... or not so soon!
Update 08.07.2018: The Road to Odessa has come to an end. I have not only cycled to Odessa but also a part of the way back home (in Moldova, Romania, Hungary, Austria and Germany) for a total distance of more than 5200 km and 33 days on the bike (6 of them already in spring from Ghent to Lausanne)! I had also multiple days off-bike (or with only a little bit of cycling), you can read everything about it in the day-by-day story in the blog (of course)!
Oh, btw.... about my future rides... you can find out more on www.the-road-to-athens.weebly.com !
